Take Control of Securing and Locating Portable Assets

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Job site theft costs the construction industry more than $1 Billion dollars a year. Companies and local law enforcement are coming up with ways to stop thieves from taking what they please and it could end up saving you money.

Construction sites are often left unattended at night and that means tools, machines, and equipment left for the taking.

"Job site theft happens on 95 percent of job sites a year," says Ben Vanderhoof of DEWALT.

And these thefts don't just nickel and dime the company.

Gary Paul of Paul homes knows the feeling.

"Probably our biggest theft was $20,000 worth kitchen appliances from a home," says Paul.

Another problem, construction companies will install a $25,000 air conditioning unit then thieves will take out all the copper and get only $40 from the scrap yard.

"We pay to have it installed, pay to have it taken out, and pay to have the whole system re-installed," says Jim Miller of Pulte Homes.

Now companies are bringing the hammer down on thieves whether it's using more savvy security like alarm systems or planting a G.P.S. device on your equipment that alerts you if its moved and lets you look on-line at your site.

"This unit will help reduce the theft and recover the assets stolen from that job site," says Vanderhoof.
